Xi3 Modular Computer: a new concept of a personal computer

         

Xi3 Corporation presented their own vision of what should be a modern computer: the company has developed a mini-desktop Xi3 Modular Computer with very unusual architecture.

Traditional motherboard is divided into three parts: one of them contains a central computer processor and memory, on the other two – the other components and I / O interfaces. Boards are easily replaced, making it easier and faster upgrades, and installing new parts instead of failed.

Electronics Xi3 Modular Computer hidden inside a compact housing with dimensions of 101,6 × 92,8 × 92,8 mm. Housing made of aluminum, plays the role of a radiator to dissipate heat.

The hardware component of development – the platform AMD, including the Athlon 64 with one or two cores and clock speeds up to 2.2 GHz, as well as chipset AMD 780E (Southbridge – SB710). The amount of RAM can be 1, 2 or 4 (for future models) GB. There is a network controller Gigabit Ethernet, audio, graphics controller with support for DirectX 10 API, USB (up to six pieces), DVI, etc.

New products will be showcased at CES 2011, which will be held from 6 to 9 January in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA). PC unit sales will begin “next year”, the unit will cost “less than a thousand dollars.” Additional product information can be found here.
